Kek Lok Tong
In short: Kek Lok Tong (also spelled Kek Look Tong) is a cave temple at Gunung Rapat, south of Ipoh's centre, known for its gardens: a landscaped pond framed by limestone hills, seen from the cave. The temple's own history says it was a place of worship by 1920; researchers say its founding date is hard to confirm.
A cave that opens onto gardens
Kek Lok Tong lies at Gunung Rapat, in the same cluster of limestone hills as Sam Poh Tong and Nam Thean Tong. It is best known for the landscaped gardens and pond beyond its cave, framed by the hills.
Its history
The temple’s own history says it was a place of worship by 1920, known as Tien Hou Gong. From 1960, it says, the cave was part of an iron mine run by Chooi Ah Kee. In 1982 his son handed it to the Kek Look Seah association, which renamed it. Researchers caution that, although popular, the temple lacks early records or objects, so its founding date is hard to confirm.
